It’s been bothering me all day, and since they are living their life on national television I think it is fair game to comment on “Jon & Kate”. First, let me say that I’m not a regular “Jon & Kate plus 8” (TLC) watcher…I’m not a psychologist, …a doctor…or any type of health care professional.
I’ve seen bits and pieces of the show as I’ve flipped through channels. Last night I had just finished watching Top Gun and was flipping through the stations to find something “light” to watch as I surfed the internet and ran across the Season premier of Jon & Kate. So I watched it apparently along with 10 million other viewers.
There are several disturbing issues about this show. The exploitation of their children, the entitlement that Kate thinks her children deserve, the disrespect towards her husband and just the overall selfishness that she projects. Plus watching the season premier and hearing Jon & Kate talk about how they are there for their children but can’t seem to work out the issues between them.
The exploitation of their children…
Sure the children are absolutely adorable but remember these are little human beings, being shaped and formed. They shouldn’t be thought of as a paycheck, a mean for trips around the country, new houses, big parties…etc.. Now definitions of words are important so lets define the word “exploitation”.
Exploitation:
–noun
1. use or utilization, esp. for profit: the exploitation of newly discovered oil fields.
2. selfish utilization: He got ahead through the exploitation of his friends.
3. the combined, often varied, use of public-relations and advertising techniques to promote a person, movie, product, etc.
So, let’s just call what TLC and Jon and Kate have done with the children…they have and continue to exploit them. These little human beings really have no say in the decision making of allowing the entire world see them grow up and the joys and pains that their family goes through. The person or people that are benefiting from this “show” are Jon and Kate and TLC. The kids are beginning to pack emotional baggage that they will carry throughout their lives. Just look at previous child stars. Now previous child “stars” were acting and many of them have gotten caught up in the celebrity status, big money, and all the other “trappings” of Hollywood. Now the Gosselin children aren’t “acting”, this is THEIR LIFE for all the world to see. You can’t tell me that there aren’t going to be issues down the road with being able to handle all of this. Someday the kids aren’t going to be as cute…they aren’t going to have cameras following them around…people aren’t going to be interested in them any longer and then what?
To be fair, it seems like Jon understands this to a point. Kate is out for herself at the expense of her children. Jon needs to step up and put a stop to the selling of their children’s childhood.
Entitlement…
In a snippet that I saw a few weeks ago, Kate tells the camera that her kids “deserve” the new million-dollar house that they just purchased. So I’ve been thinking about this comment. How do 8 little kids “deserve” a million dollar house? What have they done to “earn” it? Usually people deserve what they’ve worked for…at least that use to be the American way. So this thought of entitlement rubbed me the wrong way and showed me a glimpse into Kate’s soul.
Disrespect…
Now I have no idea who may be having an affair with whom and I don’t condone infidelity but if he is seeking the companionship of another woman I can totally understand it. In the snippets that I’ve seen I’ve been appalled at how Kate talks down to Jon almost as he is a servant of some type. Not only talking down to him, her tone is disrespectful and she interrupts him as he is speaking. If this is how she treats him on national TV what is it like when the camera’s aren’t rolling? Is this the type of behavior that she wants to pass on to her children? Her children are watching her. They are learning from her. How will they talk to their spouses? One thing that women need to know is that men need to have the respect of their wives. Respect is a very big issue with men just like being loved is a big issue with women.
The kids…
I don’t know how many people have had their parents divorce, but it’s a traumatic event. It scars children; especially little ones…but older ones have their issues too. Throughout the season premier Jon kept talking about being there for their children…that they could remain friends for the sake of the children. Kate said that her kids were the most important things in her life. Well, here’s my thought. If kids are the most important thing in a parent’s life then you stand by your commitments. You stand by wedding vows. You set the example for your children. You teach your children that your word/commitment is a bond that can’t be broken. You learn to love your spouse again. Love is not a butterfly feeling in your stomach. Love is a commitment. Commitments go along way. I remember a story that Zig Zigler told about he and his wife. Every year the two of them would go away for a weekend, just the two of them. Zig made sure that his children knew that his wife was first place in his life. This gave security to his children. When Mom and Dad are committed to each other then all is safe in the world of a child.
It makes me sad that there are shows like this on TV. Jon & Kate plus 8 is called a “reality show”. It’s really a tabloid show and the reality is that there are 8 children that are already packing emotional baggage, whether you can physically see the bags or not, they are being filled. It’s reality that 8 children are being sold for selfish motives. It’s reality that a marriage is on the verge of dissolving because of the selfishness and exploitation that has taken place.
I personally won’t encourage TLC from having this type of show on TV. I won’t watch it. It’s sad that we’ve come to this…the almighty dollar over the welfare of a family of 10.
So Democrats think American’s are idiots…especially Democratic Congressman Chairman Henry Waxman (30th District of CA). Instead of doing his job and representing the people of his state, as well as this country, by doing a simple thing like reading a bill, (which is probably in his actual job description) he instead hires a speed reader to read tax-spending bill -The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. Seriously…this is an important bill and instead of taking the time to go through the bill and give all of our representatives the time to go through the bill he hires a speed reader to be present to read the bill.
Quick reminder, just in case you forgot: Months ago our government officials voted on a $819 BILLION dollar stimulus (aka, pay back Obama supporters) package and NO ONE READ THE BILL. It was done under the falsehood of panic…had to be done immediately or the sky would fall from above. This was the largest spending bill in our Nation’s history and NO ONE READ IT! I want to remind everyone that the bill passed by the votes of Democrats only. The vote was 244 for and 188 against…ALL Republican’s voted against it along with 11 democrats who broke party lines and voted against it.
When that happened, citizens of this country were furious that their elected officials didn’t even read the bill that was going to put ALL of us further in debt. So what happens the next time around? Democrats hire a speed reader to read through a bill. See the video below…what a joke! Oh yeah, and remember that OUR TAX DOLLARS paid for this stupid stunt.

In the midst of this Abortion debate the thing that we hear the most from “Pro-choicers” is that a woman has the right to do what she wants to do with her own body. And Obama is out there saying that it is “A private family matter”. So my question is what about this 13 year old Minnesota boy who has decided along with his parents to forgo chemotherapy and opted for alternative medicines instead?
Now this is “A private family matter”. I’m sure all you parents out there would agree that it would be heart renching to find out that your child has cancer. And I’m sure you would agree that most parents would want their child to live. So I’m sure that the decision that this particular family made was a difficult one but it’s the one they decided on as a family…again…let’s remember it’s “a private family matter”. In this instance the child is alive to be part of the decision making…what to do with HIS life…his body. But that’s not good enough. The courts have now stepped in and ordered the family to make the child take chemotherapy…AGAINST the family wishes and decisions.
Where is the outrage in the “Pro-Choice” community? Does this person have the right to decide what is right for HIS BODY?
Hypocrisy in it’s finest.
Found this powerful video on several websites including Hotair and GatewayPundit.
In Obama’s speech at Notre Dame he called for pro-life people to have open minds and open hearts in this Abortion debate. He also stated that we could find “common ground” on this issue. I don’t see how we can find common ground on the issue of killing those who can’t speak for themselves. If he truly wanted “common ground” perhaps he shouldn’t allow tax payer dollars to fund abortions in the US or overseas. But he doesn’t want to find “common ground”…those words are just empty rhetoric. His actions speak louder than words. He’s the most pro abortion president this country has ever had and he has no desire to find common ground.
The speaker is in this video theologian John Piper, the animator is unknown, but they both deserve a round of applause for this:
My sister-in-law sent this to me. I thought it was pretty funny. Hope you get a chuckle out of it.
First celebrity death from Swine Flu:

And we all know who the carrier is…
Don’t get let the headlines fool you…do your research! Here’s a youtube video visualation to help with the perspective of the “millions” cut in spending. Obama knows that many American’s just don’t have a grasp on exactly what a TRILLION much less a MILLION really looks like so he can use words to make us think he’s doing something grand. This is also called “manipulation” and “being dishonest”. I hope this video will put into perspective what he’s asked his administration to “cut”. I’m sure you’ll be really impressed to see how hard he and the democrats are working to save our hard earn money from being wasted. Brilliant.
Here’s another example:
The Washington Post reports comments made by Jeb Bush:
“You can’t beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don’t like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that,” Mr. Bush said.
“So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it’s great, but it doesn’t draw people toward your cause,” Mr. Bush said.
“From the conservative side, it’s time for us to listen first, to learn a little bit, to upgrade our message a little bit, to not be nostalgic about the past because, you know, things do ebb and flow.”
Is Jeb Bush out of touch with the right? Of course Republicans need to upgrade our message…in fact we need to have a UNIFIED message…one that people can understand. Did he not watch what happened during the election? Can we go back and look at that? The media didn’t vet Obama…at all, McCain didn’t really stand up for anything, McCain suspended his campaign to go to Washington to take care of the TARP and then he votes YES for it, McCain didn’t even try to educate the American people about the role that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd played in it and not allowing more oversight into Frannie and Freddie. If it weren’t for Sarah Palin, McCain would have lost his shirt. Also, Mr. Jeb Bush, didn’t you see the hatred that the media had for your brother? So, I don’t think we lost because we want to include Reagan values within our party and within our government. Plus let’s remember that the Obama campaign didn’t really have much of a message except for the word “Change”. Let’s face it…
- We lost because we had a weak message and weak messenger…a more left message than our party has ever had.
- We lost because we have “leaders” in our party that can’t get along and support each other.
- We lost because we are behind the curve on technology and doing things with excellence.
- We lost because we didn’t have the ground troops that we did when Karl Rove headed up the Bush campaign. I know that in AZ, people couldn’t even get yard signs to put up.
- We lost because President Bush wasn’t as conservative in spending as he should have been.
- We lost because we did not educate the American people on issues and why we stand on the side that we do.
I know this is a silly Hollywood line from My Big Fat Greek Wedding but it can be used here “Don’t let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you will become.” So, we do need to keep Reagan in our midst…he knew how to communciate to the American people. We knew where he stood and the American people wanted to follow a true leader. Plus it’s not really about being nostalgic…Reagan was a leader that people wanted to follow. And I think our party is missing that kind of leadership!
The GOP better LISTEN to all those who attended those Tea Parties. There are third parties popping up because the right doesn’t think that the GOP is listening to them…they don’t want to move more left. Let’s remember what happen when Perot got into the race…is it ok to look back at that? Also, remember McCain got a huge percentage of votes due to having Palin on his ticket. He would have NEVER done nearly as well as he did had he not chosen someone who not only lifted up conservative values but actually LIVED them out!
I think that Jeb Bush and the rest of the GOP need to really LISTEN while they are on this LISTENING TOUR! Stop talking and listen to what the people want!
